James 1:22," But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves." As I read this verse I can't help but think of countless conversations that I have had with many different people concerning different scriptures. No matter what the subject of the scripture is, many times someone's response is," Well I don't see anything wrong with ............." Friends if we look at what God commands us to do and choose only to change the things that suit us, then we are in deed deceiving ourselves. Matthew 7:24-27, tells of two men who built houses, one who built upon a rock and was wise and a second that built upon the sand and was foolish. The wise man's house which was built on the rock survived the storms whole the foolish man's house on the sand was destroyed by the storms. If we attend church week after week and our heart and soul are stirred by the message, but there is no change in our life, then we are deceiving our selves. We are commanded here to not only hear the word, but to also live it. Becoming a Christian and living a Christian life should cause changes to our lifestyle. It should cause changes in every part of our life. We should be attending church and reading God's word with the desire to not only hear what God is saying but to want to change and do it. Lord I ask you today to plant that desire into my heart and soul to not only be a hearer, but, also a doer. No matter what I think about it. What I think is irrelevant. What you, my Lord, thinks is what's important.
