So often we are obsessed with our own personal gain or position in life. We find ourselves consumed in our own accomplishments. We deceive ourselves, basking in our image of success. We find however in 1 Samuel 23:17, Jonathan, the prince of Israel, exhibiting the behavior that we should be exhibiting. Jonathan is quick to step aside and allow David the leadership position, while still offering his full support. This is the way we as Christians should always be towards others. Just as Jesus Christ chose to do God's will and to humbly accept the sins of this world and the agony of the cross, even though he was the King of kings and the Lord of lords. I just as Jonathan refuse to be king. Lord thou shalt be King over me, and I shall willingly take second place. John 3:30," He must increase, but I must decrease."
