Here’s a Scripture passage that can practically be quoted verbatim, not so much because one reads it in print so many times but instead rather because of how many put it into print and shove it down peoples’ throats...for ALL of the wrong reasons. For anyone, praying this all helps. If there’s any “ammo” here that’s either wanted or needed, go for it. As Scripture implies - “Freely you have received, freely give”. 2 CHRONICLES 7:14 (NLT) Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. The way THAT passage gets misused these days had red flags stamped ALL OVER IT, sadly. Not even REMOTELY close. Here are a few things for which to watch: 1) 2 Chronicles 7:14 is Old Testament. The O.T. was under that now-obsolete Mosaic Law. 2) It was before Calvary. This is the A.D. Era now. 3) “Turn from their wicked ways”: That’s O.T. forgiveness. On THIS side of the cross, 100% forgiveness has already taken place for someone in Jesus which is why that person is born again (or “born from above” – or “born anew” – John 3:1-6 – https://biblehub.com/greek/509.htm ). That person has already repented and called upon the Name of God the Father for salvation as Romans 10:13 states. 4) “...hear from heaven”: Long-distance phone calls? HUH?? If you’re in Jesus, there’s a layer of skin which is part of your body then after that, everything else is shared which is why you are referred to as “The temple of The Holy Spirit” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). 5) “Then if my people who are called by my name”: Galatians 6:15-16 is self-explanatory as to who’s the “called by my name” people are. Everything’s already forgiven. 6) “Seek My Face” You already found Him if you’re in Jesus. There’s nothing from which to repent. It already happened. It’s forever as Hebrews 10:14 states. 7) “...restore their land”: He’s not really interested in plots of real estate; what He’s interested in is HEARTS which is why 2 Peter 3:8-9 exists. Bottom line: Should you ever hear that passage as grossly misused as it is these days, do yourself a HUMONGOUS favor and run…FAST. Realistically, some don’t really have much of a clue about which he or she is talking. “Something tells me” you have not consecrated any temples lately like what this passage is ACTUALLY describing since the Calvary was almost 2,000 years ago now. JOHN 3:5-6 (NIRV) Jesus answered, “What I’m about to tell you is true. No one can enter God’s kingdom unless they are born with water and the Holy Spirit. People give birth to people. But the Spirit gives birth to spirit. ROMANS 10:13 (NET) For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. 1 CORINTHIANS 6:19-20 (ESV) Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. GALATIANS 6:15-16 (CSB) For both circumcision and uncircumcision mean nothing; what matters instead is a new creation. May peace come to all those who follow this standard, and mercy even to the Israel of God! HEBREWS 10:14 (NASB) For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified. 2 PETER 3:8-9 (LSB) But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some consider slowness, but is patient toward you, not willing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. https://www.biblegateway.com/ According to Ephesians 5:11, instructions are to have nothing to do with the deeds of darkness but rather expose them and according to 1 John 4:1, instructions are to test the spirits. Over the years, there has been quite a lot taught about Christianity. The problem is, many of those things simply are not Biblical. Makes one wonder at times - Human opinion versus God The Father’s opinion...Wonder who would win? Additionally, Mosaic Law and/or other types of Legalism - Sad, huh? “To sanctify” means “to set apart”. “To put to its intended purpose,” in other words. In Hebrews 10:14, “For all time” means (may I have a drumroll, please) “For all time”. (That’s spiritually-speaking, of course. The rest of you? Welcome to being human.) (SIDE NOTE – In some translations, “For all time” is worded as “Forever”, “To the end” or “For eternity”.)
