As we approach the Fourth of July, our Norfolk Southern team focuses on our freedoms as individuals and on our opportunities and responsibilities as railroaders.
That's reflected in "My County," a new 60-second video featuring employees from a variety of departments and locations across the Thoroughbred system.
Rex Blancett of The Norfolk Southern Lawmen band adapted and composed the score, based on "My Country, 'Tis of Thee," the patriotic song also known as "America." The NS production crew filmed 11 scenes in six days at 10 locations, from the mountains of Pennsylvania to the city of Atlanta.
Chief Crew Dispatcher Tiffany Morris of Atlanta, one of the employees featured in the video, previously served in the U.S. Army for eight years, both active duty and reserves. Morris is now a member of the VeteraNS committee and is working to promote the group internally and externally. "It's a way for me to continue serving my country and the company as a whole," she says.
The video also features a group of Thoroughbred Volunteers, working to preserve Kittredge Park in Atlanta. In addition to their professional duties in various NS departments, these employees volunteer their time to give back to the community.
At the end of the video, Training Specialist Jimmy Waters, a certified locomotive engineer, pulls the NS Veterans locomotive through Hampton, Ga., as he waves to a little league baseball team, coached by Track Supervisor Mike Monroe. It's a great illustration that NS is part of the fabric of the communities we serve.
Thank you to all NS employees for your service to our country and company.
