It’s an excuse, a crutch.To the Pharisee, grace is sinful and heretical.Those who believe grace is all sufficient before salvation as well as after salvation must be marked and avoided.To the legalist, grace is cheap and easy.They use terms like “cheap grace” and “easy-believism,” implying that salvation is hard and should cost us something.To the religionist, grace is sacrilege and blasphemy.Surely we must offer SOMETHING of spiritual significance once we are saved. Grace couldn’t have possibly completed our salvation. We have to meet God halfway.But to the person who has nothing else to depend on, hold to, or offer, grace is the most hopeful, transcendent, beautiful idea ever conceived in the mind of God. - Chip
