Halloween-yes or no?
I acknowledge ahead of time the controversy this may stir up in the church Body, but sometimes we need to unpack the taboo and have the very discussions we tiptoe around.
As a child, we dressed up in fun costumes (nothing scary) and walked our neighborhoods, trick r treating, returning home with pumpkin pails and pillowcases stuffed full of candy.
As we grew older and culture began growing darker, as a Pastoral family, we opened our church as a safe and fun alternative with Harvest parties. Some of our favorite memories were engaging with our inner city ministry-apple dunkings, pumpkin carving contests, costume prizes, board games...Mom made her famous drop donuts with hot chocolate, we always ordered in pizza; the kids would come away feeling loved, included, with tummies full, seeing the Gospel lived out well.
I was raised to give the devil NO credit. Yes, he steals, kills and destroys, BUT Jesus counterracts this with abundant life. Whatever plan satan has, God has one greater-every time! He will often peel back the curtain to expose his evil works, for us to get into the battle and fight
In fact, this world is God's and everything and everyone in it. The devil doesn't GET to have a day!
With the Holy Spirit in you, everywhere that you walk, His glory touches the earth. You can be in Wal-Mart, walking the streets of your community, sharing a smile with a hurting soul or kind word of encouragement-you are taking back what the enemy meant for evil and allowing God to bring great good. Everywhere that your feet tread, take it for the Kingdom.
So, back to Halloween. Will we allow satan to claim a day in God's beautiful world as his, or will we take it back? When your kiddos are full of goodies, tucked away into bed and All Hallow's Eve rolls around, will we accept "it is what it is" as devil worshipers gather to pay homage to their ruler, OR will we go to battle in the spirit realm, dismantling principalities, pleading the Blood over all creation, binding the works of satan?
If you're sick, take it back
Marriage failing? Take it back
Ministry buckling? Take it back
Kids feuding? Take it back
Joy fading? Take it back
You do not have to tolerate ANYTHING outside the will of God. Find out what He is saying and speak it [ Romans 12:2, 1 Corinthians 2:16]
Lord, I thank You, that wherever our enemy has gained entry points, we slam shut the doors, crushing his toes, giving him no access. This is Your world, every day dedicated to You. Teach us how to counterract enemy schemes, invade devil territory and get back everything that was stolen from Your people. We are Kingdom kids, with the inheritance and authority of our Father, King. We are the Bride of Christ, under the Blood and protection of our Bridegroom. We do not walk in fear, but GODfidence. Remind us daily, to Whom we belong, leading us to doors on our path, Kingdom keys in hand
What are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them?
Yet you made them only a little lower than God and crowned them with glory and honor. You gave them charge of everything you made, putting all things under their authority— Psalm 8:4-6 NLT
The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him. -Psalm 24:1
In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross. -Colossians 2:15
I promise you what I promised Moses: ‘Wherever you set foot, you will be on land I have given you—Joshua 1:3
Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan.- Ephesians 1:11
And the LORD told him, “Yes, go after them. You will surely recover everything that was taken from you!”- 1 Samuel 30:8b
I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." -Matthew 16:19 NIV
