I was in Isaiah 44 one morning, the Lord speaking on manufactured idols; it can be very tempting to point fingers and scoff at the man in the example of idol worship, bowing low before a piece of wood cut from the very tree, God Himself had made-what was he thinking?
But then Holy Spirit speaks, and conviction settles in.
What is OUR modern day idol? What do we turn to as a "rescue" when we're stressed, confused, overwhelmed, in pain-instead of the Creator who designed us, birthed a future in us and knows us better than anyone?
When we pop a pill, take the drink, view the pornography, cycle in and out of meaningless relationships, consume raunchy novels, inhale the nicotine, accept the enemy report-how is that any different from the Isaiah 44 idol worshipper?
When we medicate, numb and satisfy the cravings of the flesh by OUR hand, why do we expect HIS Hand to move in our lives?
This isn't to the world, Church-this is a Father's heart to His children; we have to do better!
What is our trust in? God...or gods?
Then he takes what’s left
and makes his god: a carved idol!
He falls down in front of it,
worshiping and praying to it.
“Rescue me!” he says.
“You are my god!”
18 Such stupidity and ignorance!
Their eyes are closed, and they cannot see.
Their minds are shut, and they cannot think.
19 The person who made the idol never stops to reflect,
“Why, it’s just a block of wood!
I burned half of it for heat
and used it to bake my bread and roast my meat.
How can the rest of it be a god?
Should I bow down to worship a piece of wood?”
20 The poor, deluded fool feeds on ashes.
He trusts something that can’t help him at all.
Yet he cannot bring himself to ask,
“Is this idol that I’m holding in my hand a lie?” -Isaiah 44:17-20 NLT
