While love, gentleness, and kindness are indeed fruits of the Spirit, it is crucial to recognize that the Word of God also speaks clearly about His hatred for sin and certain individuals who persist in wickedness. The Bible states, "The arrogant cannot stand in your presence. You hate all who do wrong" (Psalm 5:5) and "The wicked, those who love violence, he hates with a passion" (Psalm 11:5). Furthermore, God declares, "Esau I have hated" (Malachi 1:2-3; Romans 9:13), and in Hosea 9:15, He expresses, "Because of all their wickedness in Gilgal, I hated them there."
These passages highlight that God's hatred is not merely for the sin but extends to those who persist in their wicked ways without repentance. It is essential to balance our understanding of God's love with His righteous judgment. While He desires that none should perish and all come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9), it does not negate His righteous anger toward unrepentant sinners.
Therefore, it is not enough to merely embrace love and kindness while ignoring the reality of God's hatred for persistent wickedness. We must stand firm in calling out sin and urging repentance, as God's Word commands. Let us not confuse tolerance with acceptance of sin, but rather, in love, call sinners to repentance and a transformative relationship with God.
In Christ's love and truth,
